Aspen As A Renewable Resource

Not only does Aspen make a great species for manufacturing hardwood plywood, it is one of the best species for sustainable forestry.

Aspen is a post disturbance species. This means when an area of Aspen trees is harvested, regeneration occurs naturally through the root system. On an acre of harvested Aspen, 6,000 to 8,000 Aspen trees sprout. Through the natural selection process, 300 to 400 of the strongest trees will survive to become the new and healthy forest.

This ensures we will be supplying you quality hardwood plywood for generations.

ISO 14001

True North Hardwood Plywood's woodlands have been certified to meet ISO 14001 since February 2001. ISO 14001 requires that there is a system in place to identify, minimize/mitigate and document environmental impacts resulting from our operation. This certification includes all of our operations carried out on public lands. Our operations represent 20% of Cochrane's wood supply. When we include the wood from other areas that we are strictly purchasing, 65% of our wood comes from operations that have been certified to ISO 14001 standards. We expect this percentage to increase over time.

All forest plans are prepared by Registered Professional Foresters and all Public Lands are independently audited every 5 years to ensure that the forests are being managed in a sustainable manner.

Our employees and the area we live, work and play

True North Hardwood Plywood Cochrane is proud that a number of our employees are professionally trained foresters. They, along with all the people working in the mill, live, work and play in the area. Rest assured that each one of them is dedicated to sound, sustainable, responsible forestry practices. This ensures they have a place to camp, hunt, fish, boat and snowmobile, as well as work for many generations to come.
